LAST RITES PERFORMED OVER MORTAL REMAINS OF SARAH ASHBY OF MAESER
Very impressive funeral services were held Monday at one p.m. in the Maeser Chapel for Miss Sarah Ashby, who died Saturday, July fifth at Provo from sinus trouble and other complications.
The chapel was beautifully decorated with potted plants. The services were conducted by Bishop Carl R. Richens. The singing was furnished by a mixed double quartet, the first song being "Cast Thy Bread Upon the Waters." Opening prayer by Thos. Bingham; singing, "My Father Knows."
Carl B. Preece, Sarah's teacher in the grade school, was first speaker and he referred to the beautiful life of the deceased, the kindness and love she portrayed through her every day life.
President Wallace Calder, the next speaker, spoke on God's love to His children exceeding that of a mother's. A special song "When the Clouds Roll Away," was beautifully sung by the Bee Hive class of which Sarah was a member.
President Ernest Eaton was the closing speaker. He read the song "Oh My Father" and compared it to our life hereafter. The quartet sang, "My Father Knows. Benediction was pronounced by Sylvanus Collett.
A large cortege followed the remains to the Maeser Cemetery where the grave was dedicated by her uncle, Bishop Claire Hacking of Lapoint.
The following Bee Hive girls acted as pallbearers, Bernice Colton, Ila Oaks, Francis Smith, Mary Helen Hacking, Lela and Freda Hall, Clara Colton and Kate Merkley.
Sarah Ashby was born February 2, 1915 at Maeser, being the second daughter of S. W. and Ambrosine Ashby. Her parents moved to Lapoint soon after her birth, living there for six years, returning to Maeser where they have since made their home. She received her education in the Maeser school and last spring completed her first year at U. H. S. She had been assistant teacher in Primary and also a Bee Hive girl in MIA and taking part in the Sunday School work.
She had been suffering with sinus trouble for some time and on June 2nd her parents accompanied her to Provo where she underwent several operations. She improved rapidly and plans were made to return home but on the Sunday preceding her death she suffered intense and agonizing pains resulting in loss of speach and unconsciousness during Thursday night and showed signs of improvement.
During Friday a prayer circle was held in her behalf with Professor Brimhall offering the prayer. All that medical aid and loving hands could do was rendered but to no avail. She passed away Saturday morning July fifth at the Nixon home in Provo.
She is survived by her parents and the following brothers and sisters, Rulon, Harold, Thora, Ward and Anna, a host of relatives and friends. The immediate relatives from outside points attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Don Ashby and wife, of Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Smith and two daughters of Santaquin; John Ashby and wife of Midview; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Mitchell of Neola; Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hacking of Gusher; Bishop Claire Hacking and wife of Lapoint; Mrs. Thora Mitchell and Mrs. Anna Bench of Duchesne.
