Thora Ashby Hall
by Vera Hall Murray

Thora was the third child of Ambrosine Hacking Ashby and Stephen Wells Ashby. Rulon Ashby and Harold Ashby were older, Sara Ashby, Ward Ashby, and Anna Ashby were younger. After she was born, they took her to Altonah in a wagon with a little stove to keep her warm. They lived in Altonah a few years, then moved to Lapoint.

They later moved to the power plant near the mouth of Ashley Gorge. One day, the young children took a lunch and were playing along the rim and in the cedars and having a nice day. The next day, Grandpa Ashby was looking for a cow and saw the children's tracks along with those of a mountain lion. He could see where the children sat to eat their lunch, and could also see where the mountain lion had lain and swished its tail in the sand.

When they lived at the power plant, the children would sometimes stay at Grandpa Hacking's. His house was big, about 13 rooms. The next move was to Maeser, and as the years went by, Thora and Philip were friends. Thora married Philip Ray Hall on March 5, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Philip and Thora lived in Vernal, Utah and had 5 children: Dee, Ivan, Donna, Vera and Wanda. Those were the years of hard work and also fun times.

Three years after Wanda's birth, the grandchildren started coming. Thora loved, tended and sewed for her grandchildren. Thora did tons of genealogy. She was a homemaker, keeping busy all the time. Thora died December 9, 1994 in Maeser as a result of many strokes.

Siblings: Rulon Ashby and Harold Ashby, Sara Ashby, Ward Ashby, and Anna Ashby
