John married Ethel Hedwig Anna Juenke on September 24, 1921 in Cass Lake, Minnesota.
Obit in "The Pioneer" Jan 10, 1975 on page #2. reads as follows:
"John Barsness, 82, of rural Cass Lake died yesterday of a heart attack. The Thomas Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and the funeral is tenatively set for Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Greenlea Cemetery, south of Cass Lake.
Mr. Barsness was born in southern Minnesota, Wanamingo, on July 13, 1892. He came to Cass Lake in 1911 to farm and do woods work. On Sept. 24, 1921, he married Ethel Juenke in Cass Lake and they made their home in Cass Lake.
He is survived by his wife of Cass Lake; a son, Raymond of Twin Falls, Idaho; two daughters, Beverly Bergeron of Warrenton, Ore., and Mrs. Ray (Louis) Madigan of Chisholm; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Andrew and Edwin of Cass Lake; a sister, Mrs. Bella Greenside of Walker.
