Dovie was born near Danville, Lawrence County, Alabama to Edward "Ned" and Mary Jane Shelton Chastain. She married John A. Brown on August 11, 1889 in Crawford, Texas and bore fourteen children of which eleven lived to adulthood.

Dovie was a homemaker; a mother who always found time for her children; teaching them things of the bible, singing as she worked.

NOTE: There were two more boys born to John and Dovie. At this time could find no burial location for them.

Services for Mrs. Dovie Palestine Brown, 88, were held at Hudson Presbyterian Church, with Rev. J.C. Johnson, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Brown moved to Graham, Texas in 1905 with her husband, John A. Brown from Hunt county, Texas. Mrs. Brown was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survived by seven sons - W.R. Brown, A.J. Brown, E.M. Brown, C.W. Brown, Ben Brown, Rev. Joe Brown; four daughters - Mrs. R.D. Mote, Mrs. W.C. Wragg, Mrs. C.F. Jeffries, Mrs. Ina Mae Scott; 37 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters - Mrs. Artie Tennyson and Mrs. Rachel Wooten.
