Marshall was the husband of Flora Lindley. They were married March 21, 1925 in Graham, Young County, Texas. In 1944, they moved to Lamesa, Texas and then to Big Spring, Texas in 1948.

Marshall worked in the petroleum division at Webb Air Force Base for many years. He retired in 1972.

Marshall loved gospel singing and taught "singing schools" all over the Young County area of Texas before he moved west. Singing continued to be his favorite pastime even after he retired.

He was the father of five children; Edward, Milton, Emma Lee, Ruth Marie and Norman. At time of death, they all survived him.

He died from complications from a bad vehicle accident in Fort Worth, Texas. He was riding passenger in a vehicle when another vehicle filled with "wild" kids ran a traffic light and broadsided him.
