Married to Mary Florence Anthume on 7-26-1899. Children: Harry Wiley, Louis D., John Dominick, Samuel Anthony and Christiana.
Occupation Bartender and Market Clerk. Died of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Chronic Nephritis.
Brothers Samuel R. Messina and Joseph A. Messina married into the Anthaume family. Two sisters, Mary Florence (Joseph) and Mathilda Anthuame (Samuel) marries the two Messina brothers. When Samuel died in 1907, Joseph's next child to be born in 1908, was named Samuel Anthony to honor Joseph's newly deceased brother Samuel. Samuel lost his son and names sake, Samuel Joseph, in 1905 in a drowning death when he was a Navy seamen in the Potomac River. Samuel and Joseph were obviously very close in life and in death as they were buried in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 1 in section B, burials #1 and #4, along the Franklin Street (now called Loyola) fence side of the cemetery.
If a photo of Joseph exists, please scan a copy and send to me so I can attach it to this memorial.
Any Messina descendant who has knowledge of Joseph's brother, Dominick Messina's family photo album which was rescued from the fire which claimed Dominick and his family in 1887 please contact me. I would like to complete his memorial. [email protected]
