ENTIRE FAMILY INTERRED: St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery #1, Louisa St., Benevolent Association of the Sons of Louisiana Tomb, constructed by Joseph "Pepe" Llulla in 1872.
Dominick was the eldest son of Gaetano Messina and Marie Gracia Lazzario D'Angelo Messina.
His surviving brothers were Samuel Rosario, Benjamin, John, Anthony, Joseph and Vincent Messina.
The succession of Dominick's estate was handled by brother, Samuel Rosario Messina, but was opposed by Dominick's father-in-law, Placide Dazet, who claimed to loan Dominick one thousand dollars in 1883 to support his grocery store business. The debt was never repaid due to the Dominick Messina's family tragic deaths in 1887 and the court dismissing his assertion during the succession.
A Times Democrat newspaper article of September 17, 1887 detailing the tragedy, said "An album containing the pictures of the family were saved from the fire." It would be truly interesting what Messina family member got the album, and perhaps has passed it down thru the years, and a Messina descendant may still have it. If so, please contact me.
