BENSON--On returning from the funeral of their child Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Fugard found that Grandmother Benson, Mrs. Fugard's mother, had departed this life. She was 70 years old. This family have the heartfelt sympathy of all their acquaintances in their afflictions.
Susan was the second wife of William Creighton Benson (1818-1885). Susan and William were married on January 10, 1849 in Fayette County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Joshua Clark and Mary "Polly" (Blocher) Clark Conner Ryun.
Susan was the mother of at least nine children with William: Rebecca (who died between 1850 and 1856), Dora, Don, George (1856-1919), Evangeline "Eva," Mary Olive "Polly" Benson Myers Moore (1862-1932), Sarah Alice, Joshua C. and Irene E. Benson and she was also the stepmother of four of William's children from his first marriage to Louisa Ann (Farmer) Benson. The stepchildrens' names were: Josephine, Louisa, Victory and Van Benson.
