ROYAL — Betty Ross, 87, of Royal passed away at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2018) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. Pastor Jay Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Royal. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph.

Betty was born April 8, 1931, in Galton, the daughter of John and Gail Bonner Cook. She married Carl Ross on Jan. 17, 1949. He preceded her in death April 30, 1997.

She is survived by her children, Jim (Susan) Ross of Ogden and Shirley (Bobby Jackson) Woodward of Ogden; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Stephen Ross; grandson, Nathan Ross; three sisters; and five brothers.

Betty was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. She retired from the University of Illinois after 30 years as the Air Force ROTC secretary. She owned Ross' Village Pub in Royal. She was an avid Cub's and Illini fan. She loved doing crafts and making scrubbies.
