Caroline Eyring Miner was born Saturday, December 14, 1907 to Edward Christian and Caroline Cottam Romney Eyring in Colonia Juarez, Mexico.
In 1912, Pancho Villa's rebels drove the Mormon colonists out of Mexico, so Caroline grew up in Pima, Arizona.
She married Glen Bryant Miner on May 20, 1931 in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. He passed away on June 8, 1996. Caroline and Glen were longtime residents of the Foothill neighborhood of Salt Lake City, residing at 2415 East St. Mary's Drive (1450 South) from 1953 until his death.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University and her Master of Arts degree from Utah State University. Caroline was the author or co-author of eighteen books, and hundreds of poems and essays; 1973 Utah Mother of the Year; 1976 Utah Poet of the Year; twice winner of the Deseret News Christmas Poetry Contest.
Caroline was a teacher of English and creative writing at Highland High School for 32 years. She was honored in 1969 as Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher of the Year. For 20 years she served on the Young Women's General Board of the LDS Church.
She was president of the League of Utah Writers; president of the State and Salt Lake Chapters, National League of American Pen Women; world traveler to many countries on all seven continents including Antarctica; recipient of the Alumni Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Motherhood Award from Brigham Young University.
On Monday, April 19, 1999, Caroline passed away peacefully at her home in Cedar Hills, Utah. She had been in ill health for an extended period of time.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, April 22, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in the Monument Park Ninth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1565 South Foothill Drive (2400 East) in Salt Lake City. Family and friends attended a viewing on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary located at 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City, and on Thursday one hour prior to the services at the Church.
Following the conclusion of the Funeral Services, the funeral procession commenced and solemnly and slowly proceeded through the Foothill neighborhood of Salt Lake City and concluded at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery located at 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City, where Caroline was laid to rest beside her husband.
