Alice Delilah Bitton Ellis, 99, died April 23, 2007, at Lost Rivers Hospital in Arco, Idaho. Mrs. Ellis was born October 24, 1908, in Blackfoot, Idaho, a daughter of William D. and Sarah Alice Peterson Bitton. Her early life was spent in the Moreland and Riverside area. She graduated from Midway High School at Lewisville, Idaho. She married Rowsel Ellis in the Salt Lake LDS temple on November 6, 1929. Early in their marriage, they moved several times and struggled during the Depression. They lived in and farmed around the Blackfoot, Moreland, and Riverside areas, finally settling in Mackay in 1935, and they later spent two years in Lewiston, Idaho. After Rowsel died Alice moved to Arco, Idaho, to be near her daughter Deanna Jardine and spent her remaining days there. Alice was a clerk in her Grandfather Peterson's store in Riverside during high school and after her marriage. She was mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to many. Alice learned to crochet when she was 10 years old and made doilies for many people throughout her life. She baked wonderful bread and always had some made for whoever stopped by to visit. She loved spending time with her family and many grandchildren. She was a wonderful seamstress and created many beautiful quilts. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many positions: various callins in the Primary, as secretary and president in Relief Society, and also as a visiting teacher for about 50 years. She was always a wonderful example to her family. She is survived by three daughters: Shirley (Lorin) Papworth of Lewiston, Idaho; Deanna (Marvin) Jardine of Arco; Wilma (David) Kuhn of Carlsbad, California; two sons, LaMar (Patty) Ellis of Rexburg and Sam (Kathie) Ellis of Idaho Falls; two sisters, Iola Cook of Idaho Falls and Audrey Towsley of Pocatello; Nineteen grandchildren, sixty great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. She was proceded in death by her husband Rowsel, two sisters, two brothers, a daughter-in-law, Sharon Ellis. Burial will be in Mt. McCaleb Cemetery in Mackay, Idaho, under the direction of Anderson Family Funeral Home in Arco.
