DELPHI CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 1951 (provided by Richard Lybrook)

In the 1880 census of Hickory Grove Township, Benton County, Indiana, Lillian May McDade was listed as William McDade, the 8-year-old son of Daniel and Jane McDade. John L. Richard was the census taker who stopped at the McDade household on June 28, 1880. When Jane rattled off the names of her children, she would have said "Lillian" and the census taker apparently heard "William" and knowing that "William" was a boys name, he put an "M" next to the name and listed the person as a "son". It should be noted that Lillian did have a brother named William McDade. His full name was William Newton McDade and he was born in 1859. In the 1880 census he is listed in this household as Newton McDade, the 20-year-old son of Daniel and Jane McDade. Jason King, Great Great Grandson of Clint & Lillie Adsit
