Nancy Lyle Cheatham Stephens, Louisville - 96, of Louisville, passed away at the Episcopal Church Home on Thursday, June 14, 2018. Nancy was born on November 15, 1921 in Chaplin, KY to the late Sue Moores Cheatham and William Perry Cheatham.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jean Paschal Stephens, her sisters, Dorothy Wigginton, Emily Davenport, Frances Wood and her brothers William Perry Cheatham and Allan Moores Cheatham.

She is survived by her daughters Janet Stephens, Rebecca Stephens, son Robert Stephens; grandson, Raymond Tri; and granddaughter, Lydia Tri. Nancy is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

During her youth, Nancy was a member of Highland Baptist Church, where she delighted in participating in church activities. Having always been drawn to service to others, her marriage to Jean, a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, provided the opportunity to fulfill this desire. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, she directed many of the choirs in the Virginia Churches where her husband pastored. She thoroughly loved life and took great pleasure in being the dear neighbor, friend, confidant, and encourager of so many. Nancy attended Ferrum and Averett Colleges in Virginia, worked in Social Services, obtained her Real Estate license and was a Mary Kay Consultant.

In 1985, Rev. and Mrs. Stephens began their retirement years; returning to Nancy's beloved hometown Louisville. Nancy was a faithful member of Broadway Baptist Church, enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in various church activities. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Episcopal Church Home for the outstanding care they provided to our mother. Our thanks and appreciations also extend to Broadway Baptist Church for their prayers and spiritual support.

Funeral service will be 11 am, Monday June 18, 2018, Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Parky. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., Sunday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Broadway Baptist Church Missions.
