AGED PIONEER PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Martha J. (Carper) Brown, mother of S. L. Brown of this vicinity, succumbed at the home of her son, George Brown, near Cavendish, Idaho, July 24, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and three days.

Mrs. Brown was one of the oldest and most respected residents of Southwick, Idaho, and with her passing one of the links of the present day Southwick country and the pioneer past is gone. The death of this esteemed pioneer was due to rheumatism, from which she had suffered patiently for many years. Mrs. Brown was born in Fredrick county, West Virginia, September 21, 1834.

She was married in November, 1849, to J. William Brown, and to the union seven sons and six daughters were born.

The surviving children are Joseph Brown of Muscatine, Ia., Hanna Ross of Trenton, Iowa; Samuel L. Brown of Pullman, Wash.; George Brown of Cavendish, Idaho; William Brown of Lenore, Idaho; Henry C. Brown of Ladviga, Ind.; Orlando Brown of Gilbert, Idaho; and Mrs. Ella Ladd of Fern Creek, Alberta.
