William L. Brown, 94, Dead At Teakean
Orofino - William Luther Brown, 94, a patriarch among Clearwater County pioneers, died at the home of a daugher, Mrs. Myrtle Powell, at Teakean at 5:25 a.m., Thursday.
He had been in failing health for several months and bedfast for the last month.
Mr. Brown homesteaded at Southwick in 1882, and moved to Teakean in 1895. He had lived at Teakean since then except for a two-year period in the early 1900's when he lived at Myrtle Creek, Ore.
He was born in Henry County, near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Jan. 24, 1860, and moved to Pullman in 1881 with his parents.
He married Jennie B. Holladay at Teakean Dec. 23, 1894.
He had farmed until his retirement 20 years ago.
In addition to his wife, his survived by six daughters, Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Anna Bloom of Orofino, Mrs. Opal Goin and Mrs. Eunice Fountain, both of Port Angeles, Wash., Mrs. Kathryn McWatty, Seattle, and Mrs. Mayme Nurmi of Lewiston; two sons, Raleigh Brown of Spokane and Gifford Brown of Teakean; 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The body is at Gilbert's chapel, where funeral arrangements are pending.
