EDGAR BABCOCK
DIED: May 21, 2018
LOCATION: Hugo, Oklahoma

Edgar Lee "Ed" Babcock, 77, went to be with the Lord on Monday May 21, 2018. Ed was born in Hugo on June 20, 1940 to Robert and Mable Babcock.

He met the woman that would be the love of his life in junior high school. After impressing her by striking her out on the softball field, he soon married Barbara Lemmons on November 30, 1957. They had two children, Brenda and Steve, and they developed a large extended family as they cared for many foster children in their home throughout the years.

As a Christian with a loving heart, Ed wanted to make a difference in the world, and he spent many of his years as a preacher spreading the word of Jesus. During his lifetime, he served in the National Guard for 6 years, he worked for 10 years as a Firefighter and EMT for the Hugo Fire Department, he worked for the Choctaw County Sheriff's Department for 10 years as a deputy and eventually as the Undersheriff, and he also worked as a Security Officer at the Choctaw Casino for 4 years.

Ed was a family man. He was a dedicated Husband, Father, Paw-Paw, Brother, Father-in-Law, Son, Uncle, and Father Figure. He enjoyed spending time with his family whenever and wherever he could. Whether he was going on a road trip with his wife at his side, holding his daughter safely on a rollercoaster at the Texas State Fair, fishing on the lake with his son, bandaging a wound for his granddaughters, or praying over Sunday dinners with his family, he was always a kind and reassuring presence.

Ed also enjoyed the outdoors. He took pleasure in working with his horses, mules, and cattle.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mable Babcock; two brothers, Thomas "Leon" Babcock and Robert "Junior" Babcock; one sister, Rosie Cooper; and one son-in-law, Randy Vanderburg.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Babcock of Hugo; his daughter, Brenda and husband Charlie Goodson of Antlers; son, Steve and wife Anitra Babcock of Hugo;
Granddaughters, Jordana and husband Chad Frost of Hugo; Erika and husband Keith Fennell of Valliant; Lexie Babcock of Hugo;

Great grandchildren, TJ Frost, Jaina Frost, Randee Fennell, and Haven Fennell; brothers, Vernon Babcock of Hugo, and Jesse and wife Billie Babcock of Hugo; sisters, Bessie and J.C. McKee of Hayworth, and Dessie Park of Hugo; extended family members, Vickie Speaks, Shauntele Moffitt (preceded him in death), Susie Curtis; and many nieces and nephews.

*My thoughts and prayers with the family. I am here because of Edgar. He also fostered me and my brother. my mama so sick with the German Measles and pregnant with my baby brother. My mom told me a story once I was asleep on Edgars chest and I rolled off of him I was still just a baby he grabbed me off the floor screaming and panicking that I was hurt (I wasn't hurt at all). He was also the first officer to ever stop me and instead of a ticket he grounded me. I wish we had more people like Edgar Babcock and his wife Barbara in this world.

*I want to say how sad I am at the passing of Bro. Ed. I know he is with our heavenly Father now and is shouting down the streets of Glory. He was always like a father to me. I spent as much time at his house as I did my own. I will always remember our time of worshipping God here on Earth. He and my dad took us to every church here in OK and TX.
