Mrs. Margaret Hotchkiss died at her home here Tuesday, June 11th, and was laid to rest in the Burlingame Cemetery yesterday afternoon. In many respects she was a very remarkable woman, and to the very last retained the strong mentality and Scotch independence so observable with all with whom she came in contact. Hers had been an unusual life in that she lived to be surrounded by many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Of her own children eight are living [and] two are dead: 48 grandchildren are living and 4 are dead; 39 great grandchildren are living and 3 are dead.

Margaret [Penman] was born at Salkirt, Sterlingshire, Scotland, March 4, 1837. She was married to Edward Hotchkiss in her 18th year. To this union ten children were born, and the [surviving] eight were all at the funeral. Her children came to America and settled in Burlingame, where they remained. Her husband died in January of the present year.

Following is a list of her children, with their descendants:

Mrs. Colin Wilson, 10 children living and 3 dead; 22 grandchildren living and 3 dead.
Cornelius Hotchkiss, 9 children and 10 grandchildren living.
William Hotchkiss (dead), 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
Rebecca, dead at the age of five years.
