Early Times in Clinton Co., Vol. II, Jack Ferguson, p. 202...Elijah Crouch, who had a land survey on a branch of Spring creek June 27, 1797, married in Washington county, Tennessee and moved soon afterwards to Carter county. He was a member of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church. He sold his property in Carter county and came to the present Clinton county, Kentucky about 1810. He purchased the 200 acre land survey of Jeremiah Denton and another 200 acre tract adjoining it from Josiah Brown, the assignee of Jeremiah Denton. Both tracts were filed with the Cumberland County Court on January 21, 1814...

Elijah Crouch had a small country store and traded in cattle and hogs. He left Clinton county about 1824, and returned to east Tennessee where he died in 1825. Mary (Ellis) Crouch returned to property they owned in Overton county, Tennessee, where she lived until her death.

Of Elijah's children, John was the only one to remain in Clinton county, Kentucky although Elijah, Jr. came back about 1845, married here, and acquired some property, later moving to Texas...
