As listed in a 1881 Stockton City directory, Mrs. Cynthia Wilkes was a "widow" and resided on Acacia between San Joaquin and Hunter in Stockton.

Cynthia Houston Wilkes, Daughter of James Houston and Granddaughter of Capt. Christopher Houston. She was born in Carolina but migrated later to Kentucky, then to Tennessee, on to Missouri, (the Western Country, as it was called) and last to California. She died in Stockton, California in 1888. She was one of the most outstanding women of the Houston Family. She was a true pioneer
