Jonathan Milton Houston was the son of James Houston b. 1775 in Rowan, NC, and Patience Bills b. 2 Jun 1780 in Surry, NC (both buried at the Houston Cem., Marshall Co., TX); he had the following siblings: Christopher Columbus, Benjamin Franklin, Elizabeth M. (Betsy), Alfred Moore, Cynthia Hartshorn, James Bills, Lillias Louisa, Sally Martha, Samuel Patton, Marinda/Marlinda Caroline, Samuel Patton, and Patience Olivia Bills Houston.

He married on 27 Sep 1836, Fatima Lucretia Estes (buried at Sowers); they had the following children: James DeWitt, Edmond Wilkes, John Gibson, Cynthia Lucretia, Mary Elizabeth, Cordelia Ann, Benjamin Franklin, Andrew Jackson, Alfred Persis, Nancy Catherine, William Jefferson, Thomas Milton Thomas, Sarah Selipa, and Richard Malcom Houston.
