Vera Mardelle Humes, 100, of Buffalo Twp., passed away on Thursday, February 15th, while in the company of family, at Harmar Village in Cheswick. Mardelle was born in Natrona Heights, on January 10, 1918.
She was the daughter of the late Ella (Carney) and Harry A. Ross. Mardelle was the widow of Harry K. Humes, Sr., who passed in 2001.
She was a long time member of Freeport United Methodist Church. Mardelle had worked for a few years at the now closed Saxonburg Ceramics but the majority of her life was spent as loving wife, caring mother and wonderful homemaker.
She had enjoyed bowling, reading and just spending time with her family. Mardelle is survived by her son and "6th" daughter, Harry K. & Karen Humes, Jr., of Buffalo Twp.; 5 daughters, Joyce & Eugene Tahon of Hollidaysburg, Linda Leah of Waynesboro, Evelyn & Howard Morris of Saxonburg, Susan & Kim Claypool, of Freeport and Janis Zubrin, of Buffalo Twp. She is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 25 great grand and 6 great great grandchildren.
Mardelle is preceded by her son in law, Hugh Leah, 2 grandsons, Kim & Noel Claypool, 5 sisters; Audrey Ankron, Dorothea Delp, Doris Ross, Twila DeMao and ValJean Campbell, 6 brothers; Marlin, Delroy, Harry, Virgil, Wendall, and Richard Ross.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, February 18th from 12-2 & 5-7 pm Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. in Freeport.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, February 19th at in the funeral home with Pastor Dawn Lynn Check officiating.
Burial will be held in Mt. Airy Cemetery in Natrona Heights In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; Freeport United Methodist Church 211 4th Street Freeport, PA 16229 or to the charity of choice.
