Peter was born in Georgia to William Jefferson and Ellen Stewart Bridges. His parents are buried in Garden of Memories. His family moved to Anderson Co, TX when Peter was very young age. He was a lumberman, ginner, and land owner in Elkhart and Houston County. He served on the Elkhart school board. He was a Mason and Woodsman of the World. Peter first married Nora May Herod 16 March 1907 in Houston County, TX. Nora died 25 December 1907, eight days after the birth of their son, Jessie Owens Bridges on 17 December 1907. Jessie died 31 May 31 May 1911. Peter is buried beside his second wife, Dora Kyle Bridges, who he married 14 April 1911 in Houston Co, TX. They are the parents of Virginia Bridges, James W Bridges, Lewis Bridges, Chester Lee Bridges, Vernita Florence Bridges, and Charles Bridges. Funeral services for Peter Bridges, 79, long time resident of Elkhart, were held at 2 p.m. today in the Elkhart Methodist Church with Rev. Frank Richardson and Rev. U. Van Sickle officiating. Burial followed in Elkhart Cemetery.

Masons served as pallbearers during the service and had charge of gravesite rites.

Mr. Bridges died in a local hospital Wednesday at 1:37 following a long illness.

Born in Georgia on May 28, 1874, Mr. Bridges moved to Anderson County at an early age. Prior to his retirement three years ago, he was a ginner for 40 years. He had also been engaged in the lumber business since 1925 and was a member of the Elkhart Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include four sons, Jim W., Lee and Charles Bridges, all of Elkhart, and Lewis Bridges of Grapeland; one daughter, Mrs. Pridgen (Virginia) Brown of Elkhart; one brother, Jim Bridges of Lubbock; three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Morris of Elkhart, Mrs. Fannie Easley of Dallas, and Mrs. Eulalie Payne of Grapeland; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
