OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Thursday, 4 November 1954:
Funeral services for Peter Bridges, 79, long time resident of Elkhart, were held at 2 p.m. today in the Elkhart Methodist Church with Rev. Frank Richardson and Rev. U. Van Sickle officiating. Burial followed in Elkhart Cemetery.
Masons served as pallbearers during the service and had charge of gravesite rites.
Mr. Bridges died in a local hospital Wednesday at 1:37 following a long illness.
Born in Georgia on May 28, 1874, Mr. Bridges moved to Anderson County at an early age. Prior to his retirement three years ago, he was a ginner for 40 years. He had also been engaged in the lumber business since 1925 and was a member of the Elkhart Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include four sons, Jim W., Lee and Charles Bridges, all of Elkhart, and Lewis Bridges of Grapeland; one daughter, Mrs. Pridgen (Virginia) Brown of Elkhart; one brother, Jim Bridges of Lubbock; three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Morris of Elkhart, Mrs. Fannie Easley of Dallas, and Mrs. Eulalie Payne of Grapeland; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
