Raymond F. Backus

84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on September 24, 2013. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 18, 1929. After 30 years of employment at the Marion County Health Department, he retired in 1994. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of Speedway American Legion Post 500, a 50 year member of Greensburg Masonic Lodge #36, past master at Clarksburg Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite. His previous wife, Leora; five brothers, Walter Elvin, Bennie, Harold, Clarence and Dennis; parents, Carrie and Ben Backus, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; two daughters, Rayann (John) Coffman and Tresa Backus; sister, Loretta Stevens; three grandchildren, Kyle (Emily) Coffman, Bree (Grant) Borgsteadt and Stephanie Payne; a step-son, Matthew (Gina) King; a step-daughter, Tammy (Tim) Richardson; four step-grandchildren Brandon, Bradley and Trevor King and Meagan (Ryan) Mathis; three great-grandchildren, Justice Weaver, Oliver Coffman and Lila Borgsteadt and two step-great-grandchildren, Houston Mathis and Aubrey King and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Bell Mortuary and Crematory, Royster-Askin- Sandrock Chapel , with services on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Canaan, IN.
