Mrs. Loretta Ruth Backus Stevens, age 68, of Indianapolis, Indiana, entered this life on September 11, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Ben J. and Carrie Lee Backus.
She was a 1964 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Martin University in 2001.
Loretta began her career at Indiana Bell Telephone, then with American States Insurance Company. She later accepted employment with Electronic Data Systems an IT Company in Austin, Texas which is a company owned by Ross Perot, residing there in Texas for several years. Loretta also owned and operated L.B. Stevens and Associates and Accounting all of her life, working as an accountant and tax preparer. Loretta was of the Baptist faith having been baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Indianapolis. She found great enjoyment in her dogs, Gina and Meg, Joel Olsteen Ministries, Thomas Kincaid Art, Genealogy, Angels, Butterflies, working puzzles, caring for others and was devoted to her family. Loretta was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Corinthian Chapter No. 456, American Legion Auxiliary Post 500, National Society of Accountants, National Association of Tax Professionals and Calvary Baptist Church of Indianapolis.
Loretta died on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 7:19 a.m. at the Westside Garden Plaza in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Loretta will be missed by her loving daughter, Amy Roades and her husband Michael; her grandchildren, Cassidy, Mary and Amanda and her husband, Damian; her great grandson, Ben; her sisters in laws, Emma Mae Smeltzer of Bloomfield, Indiana, Shirley D. Backus, Shirley A. Backus and Wanda Backus of all of Indianapolis, Indiana; her god daughters, Anastasia-Maria Trobridge and Megan Williamson of both of Indianapolis, Indiana; her special friend, Sara Trobridge of Indianapolis, Indiana; her caregiver and niece , Lois Jackson and her husband, Shelby of Madison, Indiana; her extended families, consisting of the Arbuckle and Trobridge Families of Indianapolis, Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben J. and Carrie Lee Backus, her brothers, Walter Elvin, Benny, Harold, Raymond, Clarence and Dennis Backus.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Stan Carroll at the Usher Funeral Home, 2313 West Washington Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. Interment will follow at the graveside on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the Hebron Cemetery near Madison, Indiana.
