Willie “Bill” Lee Barker was born on November 19, 1937 in Arnett, Oklahoma to the proud parents of Walter Lee and Gladys Marie (Stewart) Barker. Bill started school at Arnett public schools and then attended Vici public schools from the 2nd grade through the 12th grade. After graduating high school, Bill joined the United States Navy, serving his country from 1956 to 1960, where he received an Honorable Discharge. While serving in the Navy he married Anita Gantz, from Crawford, Oklahoma in 1958. To this union, one daughter Lesa and two sons Kevin and Stanley were born.

Bill stayed busy making a living for his family. He worked for the Adams XIT Ranch for seven years. Bill and his family later moved to Beaver, Oklahoma to take care of the Beaver County Fair Grounds. They relocated to Mooreland, Oklahoma, where Bill worked for the Woodward County Sheriff’s Department. He then worked for the Cattleman’s Association as an investigator and for a short time with the Mooreland Police Department. Bill then worked for ANR Pipeline Company for the next 19 ½ years, where he retired in January of 1996.

Throughout his years, Bill enjoyed training and riding horses. The last horse Bill owned was a red roan gelding, named Rusty. He was such a good buddy, that Bill let him come into the front room of the house. This horse liked people and he would nicker at you for attention. Rusty had a buddy that he played with called Browny. Browny was a kid horse the grandkids liked to ride. One of Bill’s jobs that he liked the most was working for the seven years for the Adams XIT Ranch in Maple Hill, Kansas. During his time there, Bill helped take care of all the different jobs, such as feeding cattle, riding colts, weaning calves and working cattle on the 4th of July every year, and calving out first heifers every spring. He also liked riding the big pastures most everyday and enjoying God’s great creation.

In May of 1977, Bill was saved while attending the First Baptist Church in Mooreland, Oklahoma. In 1990, he joined the First Baptist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. In 1991, Bill married Virginia Gayle “Roper” Smith in the First Baptist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. Virginia brought to this marriage two sons and one daughter.
