Barbara Jean Cecil Drury, 80, of Louisville passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 6, 2018.

Born into a large, loving, Catholic family in Raywick, Kentucky, Barbara was the daughter of Len and Apollonia Cecil and was the youngest of twelve children.

Barbara attended St. Francis Xavier grade school and St. Charles High School in Marion County. Shortly after graduation, Barbara moved to Louisville and started working for American Tobacco. She met and later married the love of her life, James Drury. She worked for H&R Block before having her four children. Once she became a mother, she devoted her life to the care of her children. Barbara's greatest joy and life's accomplishment was being a mother. Barbara was a St. Athanasius room mother, Brownie troop leader, school board member, Parish Council member, and Cheerleading Coordinator, among other responsibilities she undertook in order to support and stay involved in the upbringing of her children. She also supported her family by selling Avon cosmetics for over 20 years.

Barbara began another career as her children grew up, becoming a highly successful realtor/broker. She worked for over 27 years for Coldwell Banker Realtors. While working as a realtor, Barbara also managed the finances for the family business, Drury Built Homes.
Aside from her hard work ethic and accomplishments, what is most notable about Barbara was her devout faith in God. Barbara was a 50-year parishioner of St. Athanasius Catholic Church who attended Mass daily for many years. She was a Eucharistic Minister, served on numerous committees, such as Right to Life and hospitality, and was a longtime participant in the Bereavement Choir at the church. Barbara was also a longtime representative for the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal, collecting donations for novenas in honor of loved ones.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Barbara loved cooking for her family, playing solitaire and rummy, going to her family farm, fishing, playing the mandolin, doing word puzzles, saying her prayers, and supporting her grandchildren's activities.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 60 years, James, and her brothers and sisters: Joe Cecil, Anita Matheis, Frances Elder, Andrew Cecil, Gervais Cecil, Leonard Cecil, Martha Blanford, Ruth Mattingly, JoAnn Mattingly, and Hazel Mattingly.

Barbara is survived by her four devoted children and their spouses: Jim Drury (Anita), Tony Drury (Kim), Jean Belvoix (Paul), and Caroline O'Neil (Todd), as well as, six grandchildren: Zachary, Danielle, Mark, Alyssa, Savannah, and Kaylin. Barbara is also survived by her lifelong friend and sister, Margaret Blandford.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, from 2-8 pm at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Her funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 10 am at St. Athanasius Church, 5915 Outer Loop Drive, with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
