ELDER, FRANCES LORENE (CECIL), 93, of Louisville, passed away peacefully at the Nazareth Home, Saturday, November 17, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was a retired accountant at the Louisville regional office of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, better know as A&P. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Frances was a native of Raywick, KY and graduated from the old St. Francis Xavier High School in Marion County, KY. After graduation from Spencerian Business College in Louisville, she began her career and eventually started a family. She was an avid scratch cook, who could whip up anything out of Southern Living magazine. She loved to watch baseball, especially her Cincinnati Reds and she had a sweet tooth, especially for her homemade blackberry preserves. Frances also took her card games very seriously, with one of the best poker faces around. Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, John Milton Elder; and her parents, Leonard Monroe Cecil and Mary Apolona McCauley Cecil. She is survived by her daughter, Ruthie Reid (Scott); her grandchildren, Cameron Reid and Christian Reid; and her sisters, Margaret Blanford and Barbara Drury. The family wishes to thank all of her caregivers at the Nazareth Home for the kind and compassionate support she received for several years. She was forever grateful for their loving attitudes and smiling faces. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi, 1960 Bardstown Road, with internment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Memorial gifts can be made to Nazareth Home, 2000 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY, 40205.
