Clyde was born in Anderson Co, TX to Joel Webster and Julia Isabel Camp Ashley. His father is buried in Guiceland Cemetery, and his mother is buried in Ferguson Cemetery. Clyde died in Palestine and shares a stone with his wife, Lela Hamby Ashley, who he married 14 March 1936. He was survived by his wife; one son, Kenneth Marshall Ashley of Austin, TX; two daughters, Arlene Ashley Long and Elwanda Ashley Dunnam, both of Elkhart; one brother, John Wesley Ashley of Mesquite; one granddaughter; six step grandchildren,12 step great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren. His obituary appeared in the Palestine Herald-Press, Wednesday, 6 March 2002.
