Birdie was the daughter of Nikolai Kristiansen Løken and Johanna Andersdatter.
She had thirteen siblings: Clara Annette, Nels Jorgen, Henry Melvin, Ella Nora, Louis Oliver, Olga Josephine, Julia Amanda, Niley Albert, Ida Louise, Arthur Marvil, Alvina Arthea, Viola Johanna, and John Alvin.
Birdie married Ludvig Alfred Ysen on May 13, 1921.
They were the parents of nine children: Marshall Henry, Francis Harold, Doris Mae, Robert Lawrence, Donald Roy, Betty Marie, Bud Martin, Elmer Gerald, and a baby girl.

Funeral services for Mrs. Birdie Ysen were held Saturday, June 14, at the Cease Funeral Chapel. She died on June 12 at the age of 74. The Rev. George Gilbertson officiated and interment was made in the Gran Cemetery under the direction of the Cease Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ysen was born on February 10, 1901, in Shevlin. She spent her life in the Bagley and Shevlin area. She married Ludvig Ysen on May 21, 1921 in Shevlin.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. (Betty) Irvin Pearson, Chester, Montana; and Mrs. (Doris) John Schliauter of Wright, Minnesota; four sons, Elmer of Minneapolis, Donald of Grand Forks, Marshal of Klaumuth Falls, Oregon, and Francis of Hibbing. Two brothers, Niley and Jurgen Hanson of Shevlin and seven sisters, Mrs. (Viola) Vincent O'Bernie and Mrs. (Alvina) Elmer Teigland both of Shevlin, Mrs. Clara Adamson of Bagley, Mrs. (Olga) Clifford Olson of Baudette, Mrs. (Ella) Lovie England of Bemidji, Mrs. (Julia) Olaf Amundson, Bemidji and Mrs. (Ida) Ray Berg of Brainerd.
She was preceded in death by two infant children and her parents.
