Herman Eugene Foster, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, November 3, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, November 5, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Sonny Pate and Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Allen Wiggins will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Foster was born May 18, 1928, in Marietta, Georgia to the late Chester E. & Rebecca Walker Foster. Following high school graduation, he began his career in agriculture. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed working the land and tending to livestock. He loved to drive a tractor. Mr. Foster was faithful to attend cow sales on Mondays in Fitzgerald and had attended the Wednesday sale in Ashburn since the early 1960s. He lived in Irwinville and Fitzgerald for most of his life. He was an active member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and training union clerk.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Cora Faye Burgess Foster of Fitzgerald; a daughter, Dolores F. Wiggins of Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law, Jean G. Foster of Goshen, Indiana; grandchildren and their spouses: Pete & Kim Wiggins of Douglas, JoDee & David Grice of Fitzgerald, Dawn & Mark Graybill of Goshen, Indiana, Alan Foster of Fitzgerald, Mark & Julie Wiggins of Fitzgerald and Chris & April Wiggins of Adel; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Archie & Linda Rae Foster of Ocilla; two sisters: Marcella Singletary of Kennesaw and Reba & Gerald Day of Sylvester; and two sisters-in-law, Sue Foster of Fitzgerald and Bonnie Foster of Fitzgerald as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Herman Michael “Mike” Foster; a son-in-law, Bobby Joe Wiggins; three brothers; Doug Foster, Glendyon Foster, and an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Buddy Singletary.
