Joseph Quiner Carpenter passed away at his home in this city Sunday July 22, at the age of 60 years from cancer. In February it was discovered that he was suffering from a gradual decline in health caused by cancer and since that time has been confined to his home.
Mr. Carpenter was born at Stockholm, WI, January 5, 1863, where he grew to manhood. He went to Florida and on May 3, 1894 was united in marriage to Elizabeth C. Reese of Holmes County. For ten years they made their home in that state and then returned to Wisconsin. In 1915 he came to Minnesota and for several years has made his home in Plainview. He is survived by his aged mother, six children, two brothers, and seven sisters. The children are Mrs. Arthur Eggers, Mrs. R. Miller, Martha, Donald, Lillian, and Emily, all of Plainview. The brothers are Tom Carpenter of Stockholm, WI and George L. Carpenter of Rice Lake, WI, and the sisters are Mrs. Lettie Axtell of Pepin, WI, Mrs. Nancy White of Plainview, Mrs. Samuel Axtell of Pepin, WI, Mrs. Charles Longsdorf of Arkansaw, WI, Mrs. C. R. Greive, Misses Marion and Myrtie Carpenter of Plainview.
With the death of his wife Mr. Carpenter was left with his family of small children and the later years of his life were spent in attending to their wants and keeping them together. He was a man of unassuming character whose whole interest was centered in his family. Funeral services were held Wednesday with the Rev. Ira B. Foulk officiating and interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery.
