Daughter of Ashley & Katie (Wellman) Dunham
Rae was raised in Gann Valley, SD and moved to Long Beach, CA area where her dad worked in the Kettleman oil fields.

Wife of:
1) Blair Emerson Barto, age 21, of Long Beach, CA; (son of Charles Thomas Barto & Ida Bell (Brown) Barto); married on Rae's 21st birthday, June 2, 1935 in Los Angeles Co, CA; by George M. Rombe, Presbyterian, Minister. They divorced in 1941.

2) Howard Norman Frakes, California native married Rae after 1942; divorced by 1945; born in 1920, Kern Co. (son of Howard Curtis Frames & Nettie (Goode) Frakes). On Nov 3, 1941, he enlisted in the service as single, no dependents, rank of Private with driving skills including taxi, bus, truck, tractor and chauffeur. He died in May 1968, age 49 in Tom Green Co, TX, leaving a widow; occupation Military Service.

3) Bill Baird Abbott, age 30, divorced Air Craft worker of Inglewood, CA married Rae on June 3, 1945, the day after her 31st birthday, in Los Angeles, CA. He was born in 1915, in CA (son of James G. Abbott, b SD, & Olive (Yeaton) Abbott, b NB). Some time later they moved to beautiful Nice, Lake Co., CA. After 24 years, their divorce was filed in Oct 1969 in Lake Co, CA. Bill died a year later in Whittier, CA.

4) 'Mike' Burlin Lisle Hedden, born 1927, KY (son of Dewey Hedden, b KY & Flossie (Painter) Hedden, b IL). By 1930 the family of 4 were residing in Arkansas. Mike married Rae about 1974 & lived in Nice, CA. He died in Billings, MT in 1992.

During World War II, Rae H. (Dunham) Frakes worked as a riveter, building air craft in Los Angeles. She was among thousands of women dubbed "Rosey the Riveter" who filled jobs held previously by men who had gone off to war. She had no children, but was a bonus mom to her nephews & nieces.

She & her 4 siblings were a tight knit bunch. They'd picnic, fish and square dance with their spouses and some of their children. In later years they'd gather at least once a week to share a meal and play cards, most often 'Garbage'. They so enjoyed each other's company.

Rae and her sister Dorothy owned and operated a guest home for elderly women in Nice. After retiring in 1989, they sold the guest home and about 1990-1991, Rae & Mike moved into a duplex in Billings, MT next to her beloved sister, Dorothy. Sometime after Mike's death she became an Alzeimer's patient in a Billings nursing home.

Rae died in 1998; age 83; survived by her sister, Dorothy Benjamin; sister-in-law, Eunice Dunham of Lakeport, CA; brother-in-law, John W Dudley, Nice, CA; and several nieces & nephews, and many grand nieces & nephews.
