Roy was born in Gann Valley, South Dakota; the only son of Ashley and Katie (Wellman) Dunham. His four sisters, one older, adored him; he was a sweet, kind, quiet spoken gentleman.

He served in the US Navy from 1926-1930 as an electrician. After returning from duty he tried going into business with a Navy buddy in Oklahoma, but soon retuned to Long Beach, California. Roy became a residential delivery salesman for a local bakery where he became friends with M R "Pat" Davis. Roy introduced Pat to his youngest sister, Doris. Pat married Doris in 1934 and moved to Fresno, CA. Roy married Eunice Lyman on Dec 15, 1939.

When Roy's father, Ashley Dinham became a foreman at the discovery oil well in the Kettleman Hills, Roy saw that there was business opportunities there. So he, his old friend now brother-in-law Pat Davis, Pat's brother Vern Davis their wives and families moved to Avenal, CA. They owned and operated several successful business ventures which included Westside Candy and Tobacco Co. (distribution); Roy and Pat designed and built a miniature golf course; and established, built and operated a Refreshment Stand at the corner of Hwy 41 and 33 enlisting Roy & Eunice's help and friendship. They used pigeons as a means of communication when supplies were needed at the crossroad stand in the dessert.

When Roy's sisters gathered in northern CA, Clear Lake region, Roy and Eunice moved to Lakeport in 1957 where they owned and operated a bicycle and hobby shop, Lake Cyclery and Lake Hobby; which he worked for 25 years.

Roy was a member of Lakeport and Lake County Chambers of Commerce, the Clearlake Grange No. 680, and the Improved Order of Redmrn No. 177, Avenal.

Survived by his wife, Eunice Dunham, Lakeport, sisters Dorothy Benjamin of Lakeport, Rae Hedden and Doris Dudley of Nice, their adopted son Lynn of Vacaville, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Thelma Grout formerly of Lakeport.

The Dunham clan knew what family meant; they not only enjoyed working together, they fished, played cards, square danced, made crafts and prepared & shared many meals ...together.
