Mrs. Fortner was born on September 6, 1921, in the Mauldin Community of Red River County, Texas. She was the daughter of George Willie and Maudie Mae Smith Sheffield. She married Spencer Eve Fortner on November 25, 1941 in Clarksville, Texas. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and one sister, Winford, G.W., Wesley and Loeta Sheffield; as well as step children: Jim, Arnold, Archie, Beryl, Spencer, Roger and Ray Fortner and their spouses. Mrs. Fortner was a Licensed Vocational Nurse in Red River and Lamar County Health Facilities for over 30 years. For the past several years, she had been a resident of Springlake Assisted Living in Paris.
She is survived by Don Fortner and wife, Earline and Ted Fortner and wife, Beverly of Paris; John Fortner and wife Sharon of Terrell, Texas; and Mary and husband, Richard Graves of Odessa; a sister, Juanita Johnson of Plano also survives. Mrs. Fortner was loved by a host of grandchildren, great-grand-children, and great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed.
