Irene A. Phelan
BLOOMINGTON-The funeral of Irene A. Phelan, 88, of Bloomington was at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington and at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Bloomington. The Rev. Mark Williams officiated. Burial was in St Mary's Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rosary at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Phelan died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday (July 27, 1989) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Normal.
She was born March 5, 1901 in El Paso, a daughter of Edward and Frances Schlink Corbitt. She married John P. Phelan on Jan. 9, 1926, in El Paso. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Patrick, rural Hayworth; a daughter, Mary Lawyer, Bloomington; three sisters, Luella Corbitt, Hopedale, Leora Gramm, Normal and Delores Kominowski, Bloomington; 10 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren.
Two brothers, three sisters and one great-grandson preceded her in death.
Mrs. Phelan graduated from St. Mary's High School, Bloomington and attended Illinois State Normal University. She taught several years in Woodford County schools.
She and her husband farmed many years in rural Bloomington. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Downs.
