Mary "Polly" (nee Westmoreland) Moore was the daughter of John Franklin & Charlotte (nee Horn) Westmoreland, born in Stokes County, NC. She was one of five children. Her siblings were:

2) Noah Westmoreland (b. 1822*)
3) Alexander Westmoreland (1823*)(other source b.1825) md. Tempie Kiser {apparently Alex was executed for desertion 9-Sep-1864}
4) Elizabeth (Betsey) Westmoreland (1825-1913) md. (A) Harmon Wright (B) Alfred Culler (See Elizabeth's entry how her daughter married into the same Zolman Family as did this Polly's son, Alexander Moore, had done)
[*Birth years from 1850 Stokes County, NC Census showing ages]

Their father, John Franklin "Turkey John" Westmoreland was the son of Rev. David S. & Rebecca (nee Bynum) Westmoreland buried in the Westmoreland Cemetery back in Forsyth County, NC. Forsyth was carved out of Stokes County, NC in 1849. See mention of the Bynum Family on the Stokes County Historical Society Web-page.

Mary "Polly" Westmoreland married William Moore, son of Alexander & Patsy (nee Barner) Moore, on February 21, 1841. William & Polly were migrating to Kansas in 1859 when Polly became ill while the family was passing through Reynolds County. Another settler, John Buford, stopped by their camp site and seeing Polly was ill, set up the family in a vacant cabin with a couple of dairy cows. William grateful of the generosity and appreciating the fertile farm land, decided to stay at Logans Creek, which later became Ellington, Missouri.

The nine children of William & Polly are:
1) John William Westmoreland {born in 1838 before Will & Polly were married. Raised by Polly's parents and took on the surname Westmoreland. John W. married Martha J. Gordy & stayed in Stokes County, NC}
2) Alexander Moore: md. Margaret Zolman of Farmington, MO
3) James Moore: md. Sina Catherine Copeland
4) Charlotte Jane Moore: died at age 15
5) America Moore: md. Abraham Buford
6) Rebecca Moore: never md.
7) Miranda "Ranny" Moore: md. John Copeland
