Her obituary read:
Copeland: Maranda Moore was born Aug. 20, 1852. Married to John Copeland Aug. 17, 1876. God blessed this union with nine children, four boys and five girls, three girls and two boys preceded the mother in death, two boys and two girls now living to mourn the departing of a dear loving mother. Well has the poet said, “What is home without Mother.” None so loving, kind and true as Mother. She was converted and united with the M.E. Church South, Dec. 10, 1893 and was faithful to God and the Church till death.
Aunt Rannie, as she was called by all who knew her, was an invalid for a number of years but never was heard to complain. The writer visited the home of Sister Copeland often and always found her on the sunny side of life. She often spoke of the time when she would be released from this life of pain and suffering and be carried by Angels to that Heaven of rest. The morning before she died in the evening she told the writer she was only waiting for the message from God to come. So in the evening of Apr. 17, 1913 the message came and Aunt Rannie departed this life being 60 years, 7 months, and 27 days old. The funeral was conducted by the writer. The body was buried in the Ellington cemetery.
