Vaughn Herman Alston died in a Chatsworth nursing home following an extended illness. Mr. Alston was born in Towns County on February 19, 1932. Vaughn served in the Korean War as a Medic and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was the son of Homer and Mable Alston and was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Kenneth Alston. Survivors include his mother, Mable Alston of Helen; son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Deborah Alston of Acworth; son, Van Alston of Chatsworth; sisters and brothers-in-law Avis and Johnny Duffee of Opelika Alabama and Myrtle and Roy Chastain of Helen; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were held September 24th, from Banister Funeral home in Hiawassee. Reverend Jarvis Bennett officiated. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hiawassee.
