The Toombs County native lived in Hinesville 20 years before returning to Toombs County in 1978. He was retired from the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He also was retired from Public Health with the State of Georgia working in Long, Liberty and Bryan Counties. He was a member and a Past Master of Hinesville Lodge #271 and was a member of the New Corinth Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Booth, Lyons; one daughter, Kim Mitchell, North Augusta, S.C.; one son, Buddy Booth, Walthourville; three sisters, Ethel Bennett, Vidalia, Sara Hitchcock, Cedar Crossing, and Betty Hope, Brunswick; one brother, Bob Booth, Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 9, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Reverend Bob Corley and the Reverend Billy Stidham officiating. Interment followed in the Galbreath Cemetery near Alston with Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers were Gary Frimsley, Bill Thurmon, Robert Lee, Edsel Lee, Wallace Shaw and Hugh Galbreath. Honorary pallbearers were members of Hinesville Masonic Lodge #271.
