Donnie Wayne Bacon, 70, of Darien, departed this life Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Andrew Cemetery in Darien.
Born January 9, 1947 in Ludowici, Georgia to the late James M. and Vertis Idella S. Bacon, he was a USMC Veteran having served in Vietnam. Mr. Bacon was a graduate of Darien High School Class of 1965 and had been a resident of McIntosh County most of his life.
He was a former lineman for Bellsouth, as well as working for private contractors in telecommunications. He was very involved with MCA Band Boosters Club, enjoyed playing cards and Bunko with friends, and also enjoyed spending time on the river. He was a member of Live Oak Masonic Lodge 137, The Sons of Beaches Shrine Club and Scottish Rites, and American Legion Post 137.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his twin brother Ronnie Bacon, an older brother Randall Bacon, and two sisters, Faye Walenceus and Eugenia Driggers.
Survivors include his daughter, Melinda Diane Brooks of Millington, TN, and a grandson, Troy Brooks, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 27, 2017 from 6PM until 8PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Donnie's memory to The Brunswick Shrine Club, Hospice of The Golden Isles or the charity of your choice. www.edomillerandsons.com
