Pauline Theresa Fleischmann was born May 27, 1864, in Saxony, Germany. She came to the United States with her parents when she was two years old, and they settled in Illinois. Four years later they moved to Springfield area where they lived for some years and where she was married May 30, 1884, to Herman Stern, the service taking place in St. Paul's church with the Rev. D. Lange officiating. She was also confirmed there in 1880 by the Rev. G. Kittel.
Five years after their marriage they moved to Sanborn community where the Sterns farmed until 1934 when they retired and moved to Springfield. Following Mr. Stern's death in April, 1945, Mrs. Stern made her home with her children, especially with Mrs. August Dungy of Sanborn. Four months ago she went to Minneapolis, to the home of Mrs. Osborne, where she died.
The Sterns marked their 60th wedding anniversary in 1944 when their 13 living children were home for the occasion. A 14th child, a daughter, died.
Surviving their mother are: Albert Stern, Sanborn; Mrs. August Dungy, Sanborn; Theodore, Lamberton; Mrs. Lillian Jones, Redmond, Wash.; Mrs. Mary Ott, Redwood Falls; Mrs. Pauline Polk, Indianapolis, Ind.; Lawrence, Sanborn; Mrs. Clara Powell, Maple Plain; Charlotte, Minneapolis; Mrs. Anna Osborne, Minneapolis; Alvina and Elizabeth, Washington, D.C.; and George, Sanborn.
