Charles Thayer Dies Friday of Brief Illness.

Charles L. Thayer, 53, rancher and life-long resident of Sioux County, died last Friday of a brief illness while being transferred from the Chadron Hospital to Denver.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison with the Rev. Larry R. Shrout officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Loren Walker, Bob Staudenmaier, Emery Zimmerman, Buster Wickersham, Keith Zimmerman and John K. Eberspecher. Honorary pallbearers were John E. Eberspecher, Virgil Howard, Tom Doyle, and George Schaefer, all neighbors.

It has been requested by the family that memorials be given to the Sioux County Ambulance Fund.

Mr. Thayer was born March 13, 1920, to Millard A. and Caroline W. Thayer at the Thayer ranch northeast of Harrison. He married Mabel F. Wolff at Harrison on December 1, 1939. They were parents of three sons and two daughters. The family lived at the Thayer ranch until his death except for a brief interval during which they lived in Harrison. Besides ranching, he was actively engaged in carpenter work.

Surviving are his widow and the five children, Ronald of Morrill, Gary and his wife Lona of Harrison, Janice and her husband John Powell of Laramie, Wyo., Dale and Kathy at home. There are four grandchildren, one brother and four sisters living. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
