Last Rites Held For Caroline Thayer on Sunday.


Last rites for Caroline Wilhamina Thayer, 91, who died December 31 at Newcastle, Wyo., were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison with the Rev. J. Lee Gorman officiating. Burial was at the Bodarc Cemetery.

Pallbearers were six grandsons, Marvin, Melvin, Ronald, Gary and Dale Thayer and Ross Lushbaugh.

Mrs. Robert Todd was organist and accompanied Mrs. Charles Mumby, Mrs. William Renning, Mrs. John Skavdahl and Mrs. Joe Whiteaker as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Mrs. Thayer was the daughter of Samuel and Johannah Leeling. She was born at Eddyville, Iowa, July 5, 1879.

She came with her parents from Iowa to Nebraska at the age of nine. They homesteaded on Squaw Creek 22 miles northwest of Harrison.

She was married to Millard A. Thayer on July 30, 1902. They filed on a homestead at Story, Neb., and later moved to Hat Creek which was the original Thayer family home. They were the parents of nine children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard; one daughter, Mabel Stetson; two sons, Edward and Alvord.

She is survived by two sons, Herman of Lusk and Charles of Harrison; four daughters, Agnes Moser and Laura Berry both of San Diego, Calif., Vera Lushbaugh of Sturgis, S.D., and Wilhamina Francescato of Torrington, Wyo.; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Elsie Lewis of Lusk.

Among those from out of town here for the services were: Mrs. Vera Lushbaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Lushbaugh and Mrs. Ann Novock all of Sturgis; Mr. and Mrs. Noal Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Haworth, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hales and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Thayer all of Lusk; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Murray of Alliance, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Riggs of Lakeside, Neb., Mr. and Mrs. Pete Francescato of Torrington, and Mr. and Mrs. John Powell of Laramie, Wyo.
