Herman Franklin Thayer

Herman Franklin Thayer, 74, died suddenly at his home in Lusk Thursday afternoon, Sept. 15, 1983.

He was born in the Story Community of Sioux County, Nebr. Feb. 23, 1909, the son of Millard Alvord and Caroline Leeling Thayer. He attended schools in Sioux and Dawes Counties. He worked on various ranches and as a mechanic in several Nebraska towns.

On Feb. 10, 1934, he was married to Inez Wolff at Harrison, Nebr. They moved to Lusk in 1937 and made their life-long home there. He was self-employed as a building contractor and freely enjoyed sharing tips of the building trade with the young men of his family and the community.

In recent years, he was semi-retired and operated a small engine repair and saw sharpening business. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Inez of Lusk; two daughters, Shirley Hawkins of Casper and Luella Judd of Douglas; three sisters, Agnes Moser of San Diego, Calif., Vera Lushbough of Sturgis, S. Dak. and Wilhamina Francescato of Dayton; two grandchildren, Richelle Hawkins of Casper and Shane Judd of Douglas; one son-in-law, Ben Judd of Douglas; two sister-in-law, Mabel and Hattie Thayer of Harrison and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Heart Fund or to Niobrara Memorial Hospital for emergency equipment.
