Funeral Held for Alvord Thayer


Funeral services for Alvord Thayer, 54, who died unexpectedly at his ranch home on May 24, were held May 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison and burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

The Rev. J. Lee Gorman officiated. Pallbearers were Loren Walker, John E. Eberspecher, Bob Staudenmaier, Emery Zimmerman, Buster Wickersham, Lyle Lewis. Mrs. M. H. Koch was organist, and songs were sung by Mrs. Charles Mumby, Miss Lilly Larson, Mrs. William Didier, and Mrs. Ted King.

Mr. Thayer was the son of Millard and Caroline Thayer, born at their home in Harrison March 7, 1914. He lived on the ranch all of his life. He married Hattie Smith on July 15, 1939, and they were parents of four children.

Surviving besides his widow are the four children, Melvina Dillman of Cheyenne, Wyo., Joy Dean Niswender of Ann Arbor, Mich., Marvin of Harrison, and Melvin, now in the U.S. Army and stationed in Vietnam; his mother, Mrs. Caroline Thayer, Guernsey, Wyo.; two brothers, Herman Thayer of Lusk, Wyo., and Charles Thayer of Harrison; four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Moser of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Vera Lushbaugh of Sturgis, S. Dak., Mrs. Wilhemina Francescatto of Guernsey, Wyo., and Mrs. Laura Berry of San Diego, Calif. There are two grandchildren. His father, one brother and one sister died previously.

Melvin was given a 30-day leave to come home from Vietnam.
