W. M. Stillman Succumbs at His Home at Ellard-Was An Outstanding Citizen
Mr William M. Stillman, better known to thousands of people a "Bill" Stillman, age 78, passed away at his home in the Ellard community on Thursday, Dec. 4, following a lengthy illness.
He was a retired farmer and was one of the county's most popular citizens.
Mr. Stillman wa born in Calhoun County on Mar. 20, 1880. He was the son of the lamented Joe Stillman and Sarah Weaver Stillman, and descended from a pioneer family of this county.
A member of the Baptist Church, to which he was faithful and consecrated, he was a useful and respected man, who had friends in every community of Calhoun County. Mr. Stillman was a kind man- a man who loved his family and friends and who was very considerate and thoughtful toward them. The writer was among those who valued his friendship and spent many happy hours in association with him. We never heard a single person criticize Mr. Stillman, but we have heard many praise him. Therefore, it is evident that he was a worthwhile citizen and a man of influence and a worker for progress in church, school, road and other good programs.
Funeral services for Mr. Stillman were held from Concord Baptist Church on Saturday morning, Dec. 6, at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. George Gullett, with interment in Concord Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Bennett Stillman, of Ellard coummunity; by a daughter, Mrs. Ruel Morris of Rt. 2, Bruce; by two sons, C. S. Stillman of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Claude Stillman of Greenville, MS; by a sister, Mrs. Janie Alexander of Rt. 2, Calhoun City; by 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
