Dovie (Lee) Yandell, age 94, went to be with the Lord February 15, 1992. She was born in Hunt Co. Texas September 6, 1897. She had lived in Oklahoma City for 50 years, coming from Asher, Oklahoma. As a young woman, Dovie Lee was a substitute teacher at the Spring Hill School near Lexington. She was a charter member of the Spring Hill Freewill Baptist church and had served as organist and pianist in several churches. Throughout the flu epidemic of 1918, she served as a nurse for Dr. Thatcher. For the past several years, she has been a homemaker and was a member of the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Weaver Lee and Celia (Durham) Lee; her husband, Dr. Isaac Wilson Yandell, M.D.; 3 children, Hershel, Celia, and Austell; 3 brothers, Lon, Jim, and Hershel Lee; and 2 sisters, Cassie Pinkston and Henryetta (Etta) Southworth. She is survived by her daughter, Dovie Iona Kinsey; sons, L.D./Merleen, Vernon/Sarah; and DeArthur/Winnie; step-daughter, Ora Newville; step-son and daughter-in-law, Lacy and Venia Yandell; 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 1992, at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church with committal services to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Oklahoma.
