Funeral services for Mildred Estella Ashley, 81, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Steven Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Newport Cemetery.
Born Dec. 15, 1917, at Graham, Okla., to James Hogg and Eula Mae High Pruitt, Mrs. Ashley died June 25, 1999, in a local nursing home.
She married James Preston ³Shorty² Ashley Dec. 1, 1930, at Wheeler, and was a former seamstress. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Feb. 14, 1994; a daughter, Loice Ashley; a grandson; granddaughter; great-grandson; two sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by four sons, Roy and Gary Don Ashley, Newport, James ³Tip² Ashley, Lone Grove, and Preston Ashley, Kellyville; two daughters, Joyce Lobdell, Oklahoma City, and Judy Matthews, Springer; two brothers, Oscar Pruitt, Taft, Calif., and George Pruitt, Hamblin, Texas; a sister, Norma Miller, Wellington, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Fred Wright, Eddy Wayne Merritt, Eugene Christian, Anthony Bosmans, Jimmy Hammer and Jesse Hornebeck. Honorary bearers are Mark Merritt and Danny Worchester.
