Early Life: Allie was born May 1, 1922, in the Mormon colonies of Colonial Juarez, Mexico, to George Travers and Della Redd Spilsbury Tucker. She was lucky to have a sister and five brothers to share the years growing up. When Allie was ten years old, her family moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah. Her parents taught their children how to work hard; something she was very proud of. The "Tucker Boys" became star athletes and protected their sisters. Consequently, she became a fiercely competitive lifetime sports fan; she loved to watch games on TV.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: While working at Daynes Jewelry in Provo, Utah, a co-worker spotted the new boy in town walking by outside. He turned out to be Richard "Dick" W. Schanz, her future husband. They married and moved to Tucson, Arizona, where Dick attended the University of Arizona. While living there, her children, Eric and Jill, were born. Upon graduation, Dick was hired as a general manager for Buick Motor Division and they moved to Seattle, Washington. After years of working in various states, they returned to Utah and settled in Salt Lake City. Allie became the owner of VaLora's Candy and Ice Cream. She was a successful business owner and operated five stores and supplied candy to all ZCMI stores. Besides loving sports, she loved Arabian horses; she and Jill became involved in breeding, raising and showing Arabians, breeding several national champions. Allie and Dick divorced after 27 years of marriage and thereafter she devoted her time to her work and her family. Upon retirement, she spent her time with her children and grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking, and anything she could create for her family and friends. No one would ever leave her house wanting. Alison "Allie" Tucker Schanz died February 14, 2017, in her home, where she lived independently at 94 years old.
Survived By: Her son, Eric Schanz (Peggy); daughter, Jill Babitz; her grandchildren: Eric Schanz II (Michelle), Carly Schanz, Philip Babitz, (Jane), Kendra Babitz, Suzanne Babitz; and one great grandchild, James Alexander Babitz.
Preceded In Death By: Her parents; daughter, Suzanne; brothers and sister.
