Herbert R. Knox, 88, of Amherst, NY, formerly of 476 Bolivar Dr., Bradford, passed away, Friday February 3, 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 22, 1928, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Lawrence R. and Sarah Cecelia (Brown) Knox. He attended Bradford schools.
On May 24, 1946 he enlisted in the United States Army, he served in Germany and was honorably discharged on April 8, 1949.
On March 21, 1952, at the First Baptist Church, he married Idamae (Wilson) Knox, who died on February 1, 2008.
Herb was employed at AirCo Speer, McKean Memorial Park Cemetery and prior to his retirement in 1987 he worked at the Bradford Regional Airport.
Mr. Knox was a former member of Bolivar Drive Baptist Church. He loved to do woodworking and gardening.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley (Douglas) Green, of Allegany NY, Susan (James) Lakins, of Brooksville, FL, and Robin Knox, of Bradford, two sons, Kenneth (Marian) Knox, of Amherst, NY, and Tom (Sandy) Knox, of Rixford, 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Knox, who died on January 21, 2005, two sisters Viola Hetrick, and Betty Peterson, two brothers Maurice Knox and David Knox.
Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday February 7, 2017, from Noon to 2:00 pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Avenue, Bradford, at 2:00 pm funeral and committal services will be held with Rev. Dan Mills, Pastor of the Bradford Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.
